ACTION!

What can we do to prevent the Church of England from "taking over" the Liverpool Blue Coat School?

1. HEADMASTER "SANDY" TITTERSHILL has taught at the Blue Coat School since 1966. He was appointed by G G Watcyn,

who was headmaster at the time, having joined the school in 1926. He is seeking letters of support and (as of 8th January)

had received over 800. This compares with just six letters in support of the Church of England. WRITE TO HIM!

Address: The Liverpool Blue Coat School, Church Road, Wavertree, Liverpool L15 9EE     E-mail:

2. THE SECRETARY OF STATE, ALAN JOHNSON MP, was educated at the prestigious Sloane Grammar School in Chelsea,

and has been MP for Kingston-upon-Hull West & Hessle since 1997. He was appointed Secretary of State for Education and

Skills in May 2006. We need to make sure he is aware of the volume of public opinion. WRITE TO HIM!

Address: House of Commons, London, SW1A 0AA   Website:       E-mail:

3. THE BISHOP OF LIVERPOOL, RT REV JAMES JONES has held office since 1998, having previously been Bishop of Hull.

He was educated at the Duke of York's Royal Military School (Dover) and Exeter University. On the Church of England website

he claims to be "a passionate advocate of enabling local people to shape their own destinies".  I wonder why he is so keen

to stop the people of the Blue Coat School from shaping their own destinies? WRITE TO HIM!

4. YOUR CONSTITUENCY MP, whoever that may be, is duty-bound to represent your wishes. WRITE TO THEM!

If you don't know who your MP is, you can find out by entering your postcode on the opening page of the website on this link. You can then e-mail them directly from the website, which also tells you their postal address.  Link:

5. PETITION THE PRIME MINISTER.  You can now petition the Prime Minister on-line. Click on this link to view the Government's response to the petition, which closed on 5th February. It took a total of 805 signatures - not bad, as it was

only live for three weeks.   Link:

6.  CHURCH OF ENGLAND MEMBERS - Your local Vicar may not be aware of this situation.  INVOLVE YOUR LOCAL CLERGY!

7. PROPAGANDA LEAFLET.  I have produced a single-sheet leaflet that you can attach to letters, place on notice boards, or distribute to people you feel may be able to lend their support. If you would like me to e-mail the file to your computer, please contact me, then print and distribute as many copies as you can.   E-mail link:

THE DEADLINE FOR "CONSULTATION" WAS FRIDAY 9th FEBRUARY. NOW WE CAN ONLY SIT AND AWAIT THE DECISION.

The deadline for "consultation" with the Secretary of State was 9th February 2007!  We are now awaiting his decision.
